My favorite museums in the world
There a many spectacular museums in the world so choosing favourites was never going to be easy. Obviously I haven’t been to every museum in the world but I have been to most of the best known ones. Since it is quite likely that the most well known museums are also the best I think that makes it reasonable to say that I have seen most of the top ones in the world. The list of my favorites is of course my personal opinion.
My number one favorite museum in the world has to be the Louvre in Paris. This is quite possibly the most famous museum in the world and for good reason. It has the finest collection of art anywhere in the world. With over thirty thousand paintings on display there is a lot to see. Some of the most famous paintings in the world are at the Louvre. Of course there is a lot more than just paintings to see there is a huge variety of art and antiquities on display. The museum is huge which can be a little bit intimidating for some people but it is well worth a visit.
Number two on my list of favorite museums is the British Museum in London. The reason that I love this one is that it has such a wide ranging collection. Most museums are dedicated to one culture or one specific theme. Not the British Museum, they have objects on display from a huge variety of cultures from all different time periods. For centuries the British had a large number of colonies and that allowed them to gather items from all around the world and many of them are on display at the British Museum.
Next on the list of my favorite museums in the world has to be the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This is one of the largest and most spectacular art collections in world. With over one hundred thousand works on display representing the great masters of the world of modern art it is hard not to find something that you like. There is no way that you could possibly see everything in just one day, really it would take a week to the Museum of Modern Art justice.
The next museum on the list would probably be the Vatican Museum. Strictly speaking this is several different museums but they are all connected together. Over the years the Vatican has managed to assemble one of the most impressive collections of art in the world, and visiting them kind of requires a special walkthrough… For centuries most works of art were commissioned by the church and the best of these have ended up in the Vatican Museum. There are works by the great masters of the renaissance in addition to many other treasures that have been collected over the years. Even the buildings that house the museum are works of art; all of them meet at the Sistine Chapel which is a major tourist attraction in its own right.
One thing a lot of people don’t get is that some art galleries are museums on their own. I am a fan or Park West Galleries. I’ve visited them on many occasions, and have always spent countless hours checking out their amazing pieces. To discover new local talent, the Park West people have a great setup!
