Channeling Empress Style with Wendy Brandes

brandesFascinating women inspire and influence Wendy Brandes. It does not matter where or when they lived, be it the sixteenth century, the Gay Nineties, or the new millennium. Her pieces are unquestioningly eye catching and beautifully bold. They are both organic and feminine. She puts together many mechanical pieces which can open and close, twist, or be unscrewed. She used to be in marketing and the media, having worked at the Wall Street Journal and CNN, and a number of other prestigious places. After fifteen years in the game, however, she turned to jewelry designs, and thank goodness for that!

The piece featured here is the Queen Min Ring. Queen Min was Korea’s last empress. She was assassinated over two hundred years ago, in 1895. There are no identified pictures of her, making her a rather elusive figure.

As such the ring here has a dragon carved onto into a single side of the stone. From different angles, the dragon can disappear.
