When you think about jewelry trends, what is usually the first thing that you think about? Well – I think that the trends are constantly going to be changing and constantly going to be updated. There is no difference in that statement for the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 Jewelry Trends. These particular trends are actually pretty cool and that is what we are going to explore in the next couple blogs.

The first trend up is actually statement necklaces. These are necklaces that are extremely chunky and definitely gain all sorts of attention. These are big and bold pieces that can either be really colorful or they can be colorless yet huge.

Statement necklaces are definitely a part of the runway this season and Armani is making it happen – as these are two of his necklaces.

H. Stern: In the Moonlight

Jewelry is supposed to be evocative. It is supposed to inspire the person who is wearing it, whether that happens to be a man or a woman. It is also supposed to inspire the people who simply see it — around your throat, in your ears, around your wrist, or even pinning your cuffs. Having said that, let us consider H. Stern.

The young, German born jewelry designer, who spent much of his life in Brazil, has been touched by inspiration, one only need look at his collections to see that. Their very names are inspiration — and their names are nothing next to the pieces which can be found in those collections.

This particular necklace is a prime, stunning example of the pieces which make up the Moonlight collection. The rock crystals which make up this particular necklace are antique cut gems. It and its companions in the Moonlight collection are both vintage and celestial, creating a truly whimsical juxtaposition.

Swarovski Crystal Vision, “Bling” for Your Eyes

Beautiful Swarovski crystals are everywhere. So brilliant in appearance, they are the perfect adornment for luxury lingerie, designer sandals, leather handbags, and fashionable eyeglasses. But one designer has gone a step further with designer eyewear and actually won second place in a Swarovski crystal competition for his crystal embedded contact lenses.

Sponsored by designboom and Swarovski, the contest winners’ names and products were published earlier this month with “Sparkle”, by Anthony Mallier of India, taking second prize. This is a wonderfully, inventive creation with Swarovski crystals fused into the outer edge of contact lenses. The crystals radiate beauty and charm giving the eyes a sparkling luster. Because the designer feels that the eyes are the most expressive part of the body and have a message to convey, he felt it more appropriate to bring dazzle to the eyes. Coupled with Swarovski’s magnificent qualities and well sought after appeal, it was a perfect match to pair the crystals with contact lenses.

Winning such a top position in the “Crystal Vision” themed contest is quite prestigious as Anthony was chosen from close to forty-one hundred entries from over ninety countries. In fact, it was so difficult to choose winners that the announcement was delayed in order to adequately review all the deserving entries. Two of the requirements were the ability to package the products and to sell them as over-the-counter items when they are placed in the new SWAROVSKI concept store. Second place prize was Euro 3000 (roughly $4300 US).

Baby Phat Jewelry

I’m a big fan of Baby Phat clothing and Baby Phat Lingerie, but I’m not too sure about Baby Phat Jewelry… I was browsing the Palm Beach Jewelry website and even though the Baby Phat pieces are extremely affordable (budget jewelry is the right word I think) I’m not that convinced…

Let’s take a look at one or two pieces from the Baby Phat Jewelry collection…

Baby Phat Logo Watch

The famous feline logo looks pretty in this watch generously filled with Swarovski-crystals. This is by far my favorite from the collection!

Baby Phat Logo Gold Ring

This is a perfect example of what I don’t like about Baby Phat. They’re overblinging. This looks as cheap as it is — $15. You can even do it in installments, haha!

What you pay is what you get, no?
